Do you ever want to own a server at home/office?
Do I overused to place this inside your room? I am happy to have 1 to store my data and offer security features for my parent and siblings. Everyone owned private stuff :p
Let's go thru the installation together
Just drop me a comment if you missed out anything- I promise I will reply.
What do you need?
As per MOUSE recommendation, minimum specification will be as below
Do you think we can get such low specification in year 2011?
Don't be kidding, any junk will also faster than that.
- 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
- 512 MB of system memory
- 4 GB of available disk space
- DVD-R/W Drive
- Internet access (to activate and get updates)
Let's start to install Windows Server 2003
01. Start the computer from the CD and setup will load all the needed files and drivers
02. Select To Setup Windows Server 2003 now and press ENTER
03. Read and accept the licensing agreement and press F8 if you accept it.
04. Select and create the partition on which you will install Windows Server 2003.
UNDERSTAND THE FACTS
******************
When hard disk is unpartitioned, create and size the partition on which you will install Windows Server 2003.When hard disk is already partitioned, but has enough unpartitioned disk space, you can create an additional partition in the unpartitioned space.
When hard disk partitioned that is large enough, install Windows Server 2003.
When partition has an existing operating system, you will overwrite that operating system if you accept the default installation path. However, files other than the operating system files, such as program files and data files, will not be overwritten.
When hard disk has an existing partition, you can delete it to create more unpartitioned space for the new partition. Deleting an existing partition erases all data on that partition.
Don't worry, the remaining space on the hard disk can be done via Windows Disk Management later
******************
05. Choose your file system by formatting partition - I'll go ahead with NTFS because we need server functionality later.
06. Setup will now begin (5-10 minutes, depending your hardware)
07. Wait for the restart in GUI mode
That's all for today, I'll continue Part 2 very soon .....
Going to bed now, thanks for reading
